What is 'Glamour'?

In one of our seminars today we were discus

sing Glamour. What is Glamour? What is it that portrays Glamour?

The controversial conversation I personally found very interesting, concerning that of celebrities.
Some may say that Katie Price is 'Glamorous', due to her dress sense, her love for designer and not forgetting her ever - changing 'big' hair. However, could this be an idealisation of what we think Glamour represents, or simply a misunderstanding?

Glamour was first defined during the 19th Century, it is usually associated with Women, implying a form of sophisticated feminine allure.
Glamorous women often express an attitude of self - possession and assertiveness in conflict with traditional models of femininity, however, it is not always recognised through silky dresses, red lipstick and long flowing hair - but through class, poise and persona.

Work Experience

As a journalist I am forever looking for work experience opportunities; I have worked for two magazine company's beforehand, these being EgmontUK, and Sofeminine.co.uk.
Both of these experiences taught me different things about the workplace, the job as a whole, and what it is really like to work for a magazine day in, day out.

EgmontUK
EgmontUK is a leading children's publisher of books and magazines - this company was my first opportunity to work for a magazine, completing writing tasks, proof reading, and creating page layouts for the exciting magazines was perfect in introducing me to my first work experience.

Sofeminine
Sofeminine magazine was an entirely different experience - being employed as an intern for London Fashion Week, the tasks that were given to me were of a higher standard and needed to be completed by a certain deadline. This certainly tested my ability to work hand in hand and communicate with the team a lot more, most of us working alongside each other in order to keep up to date with the weeks' schedule and provide the LFW information on the sofeminine website on time.

Reveal Magazine
I am currently awaiting my third work experience, this time for Reveal magazine! I am very excited about working for the magazine for a week in March and I am looking forward to what the experience will bring.
I will be sure to keep you updated on how it goes!

Being a 'Blogger'...

When I first discovered that blogging was key practice for upcoming journalists like myself, I panicked. What will I talk about? Will anyone be interested in anything I have to say? are just a couple of the thoughts that ran through my mind.
However, I have realised that blogging is a brilliant way to talk about issues that I am genuinely interested in, whether that be controversial issues, the latest fashion, my personal experiences or simply who I would like to win Big Brother this year!
My main fault however is that I tend to blab on a lot -some would say - particularly about issues that catch my eye, or anything that I have an opinion on in that matter - yes, that's right, I am a 'waffler'! - I plan to work on this as I progress.

I am now officially a 'Blogger' and from now on will be showcasing my views right here; feel free to give me any feedback you feel relevant and I hope you en joy my blog!
